Sometimes I get dizzy and fall down. Its OK!

Unless I'm bleeding badly you likely don't need to call an ambulance or take me to the hospital. Give me some water and maybe a snack with some salt to replenish essential minerals. Slight elevation of my feet above my heart and a hug would also be nice, because it can be embarrassing.

What you're seeing is called a Vasovagal Sycope, or "Bagel Attack" as my dad says. It occurs when part of your nervous system that regulates heart rate and blood pressure malfunctions.

For me this happens sometimes for no reason at all.  These episodes are NOT life threatening, though the condition can be debilitating due to the frequent feelings of dizziness.

 What it looks like

  • My blood pressure might be very high or very low depending on what stage of the attack I'm experiencing
  • Jerky, abnormal movements, it might look like a seizure
  • Slow or weak pulse
  • Dilated pupils, pale skin, clammy skin
 Recovery

It generally beings in less than a minute. However, if you stand up too soon after fainting within about 15 to 30 minutes, you can faint again. Give me a couple minutes and maybe some space to lay down with my feet elevated.

History for me

My cardiologist doctor doesn't know why this happens to me more than others, just that its normal for me and I'll eventually grow out of it. Medications for to prevent this from happening regularly can be worse than this happening, so at this time its untreated.

My dad made this website to share with people who want to know why I say I'm dizzy sometimes.
